Book Tags – Rapid Fire

Been watching a lot of vloggers banging on about books. Not quite ready to do my own vlog yet, but fancied having a go at some of the tags they did.

Here’s my Rapid Fire book tag…

Q: E-Book or Physical Book?
A: Physical book. I’ve owned a Kindle for a number of years now and have only managed and on it, and was only because that was the only way I was going to get to read them.

Q: Paperback or Hardback?
A: Aesthetically, I prefer hardback or paperback-sized hardback, such as this edition or the Series Of Unfortunate Events.

Q: Online or In-Store Book Shopping?
A: In-store, otherwise online if not in stock.

Q: Trilogies or Series?
A: Series, but more on the adventures in the world of…, such as the fantastic Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, as opposed to the same tired gang going through the same tired plots for umpteen books or one book unnecessarily split over numerous volumes.

Q: Heroes or Villains?
A: Either, if written well, though I do like my bumbling hero. Dirk Gently from comes to mind.

Q: A Book you want everyone to read?
A: , book 1 of the Expanse series by James S. A. Corey. It’s like A Song Of Ice and Fire, except it’s good, and in space. It’s the beginning of an excellent series. The TV show’s pretty awesome too.

Q: Recommend an underrated Book?
A: , book 1 of the Tales of the Ketty Jay series by Chris Wooding. If you’re one of those people sorely missing Firefly, this is not it, but is about as close to it in spirit as you can get. I only know about it because I spotted it in the library.

Q: The last Book you finished?
A: , book 1 in the Tower and Hive series by Anne McCaffrey

Q: The last Book you Bought?
A: by Claire North as recommended by: PeruseProject

Q: Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?
A: A yellow plastic 2D car I got in my cracker at a work Christmas lunch.

Q: Used Books: Yes or No?
A: Yes. Yes it would be nice to have a mint condition sci-fi book with that cover, but I’ll happily settle for a loved copy I don’t feel guilty reading.

Q Top Three Favourite Genres?
A: 1. Sci-fi; 2. Adventure; 3. Fantasy

Q: Borrow or Buy?
A: BUY! Though I do borrow from our local Library a lot too.

Q: Characters or Plot?
A: Plot. Doesn’t matter how good the characters are, if they’re just sitting about watching it rain, then there’s something wrong.

Q: Long or Short Books?
A: Short. I like completing a story in a day or so. I’m not against the larger tomes, though.

Q: Long or Short Chapters?
A: Short. Matthew Reilly uses very short chapters and in his stories, you need those! If you only have half-an-hour to read and your chapter’s 100+ pages long, it sucks stopping in the middle of it.

Q: Name The First Three Books you Think Of…
A: , book 2 of the Jan Darzek series by Lloyd Biggle Junior. A book that will always be the answer to this sort of question. Go read it!
Worth reading just for the title alone. It’s also pretty funny stuff.
, the precursor to the Galactic Milieu Trilogy (My book of the day, it’s sitting right in front of me).

Q: Books That Makes you Laugh or Cry?
A: Laugh. Though both are equally difficult to read aloud.

Q: Our World or Fictional Worlds?
A: Fictional, though the Discworld’s not that far off…

Q: Audiobooks: Yes or No?
A: No, my listening skills are atrocious

Q: Do you Ever Judge A Book by its Cover?
A: Of course. Just look at the Ketty Jay series covers!:

They’re worth reading too.

Q: Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?
A: TV. It doesn’t always have to be a 24 episode epic if a handful of episodes will do. The Expanse is a perfect example of this.
Would also love to see: done as a series

Q: A Movie or TV-Show you Preferred to its Book?
A: Not the best film, but there wasn’t much in the book to work with.

Q: Series or Standalone’s?
A: I do like a good series. Something like the TimeRiders series by Alex Scarrow just wouldn’t work as a standalone.

There you have it, my very first book tag. Hope you liked it. Do please comment below your thoughts. If you want to give this tag a go, I tag YOU!
